Local Care Home Manager wins Regional Care Accolade

Rhona McGregor, Home Manager at Havencourt Care Home in Stonehaven has been crowned Registered Care Home Manager of the Year for Scotland, Wales, South West England and Bristol in the Four Seasons Health Care Awards 2016 and is through to the national finals.

This year over 700 people were nominated for awards by care home residents, colleagues and visitors. All entries have been of a very high standard making the judging process a difficult one. However, a winner had to be chosen and the nomination for Rhona demonstrated how shecontinues to make a difference and provide special resident experiences on a daily basis.

During the judging process for the Registered Care Home Manager of the Year award, the panel was looking at a number of different factors including top of the range leadership skills, the ability to adapt and embrace initiatives such as our innovative Quality of Life Programme, as well as ensuring the efficient day to day running of the home.

Rhona’s nomination read: “Rhona has been the Manager at Havencourt for almost 4 years, after working throughout the Grampian region. Rhona is a dedicated member of the team who is passionate about the care that the residents that live within her homes.She is not a manager that sits behind a desk, she is forever on the floor not only supporting residents and colleagues but also her individualised approach with families is an inspiration to not only her team but also to the residents and relatives alike. The residents enjoy spending time with her and the fact that she makes time for them and encourages participation, especially with decision making within their own lives and to encourage colleagues to support residents with new adventures and opportunities within their lives whilst living at home at Havencourt. She had been a leader in turning the home into a Dementia friendly home and has recently supported the home to complete "The Dementia Care Framework" which not only educates the team but can be for the benefit of families and other professionals, to give them a better understanding of how a resident may feel when living with dementia. Other managers from our region often call her for advice due to her open nature. She is also always available and makes time for residents and relatives. Rhona is a huge asset to Four Seasons.”

As the winner for Scotland, Wales, South West England and Bristol, Rhona is automatically through to the national Four Season’s Care Awards finals. She will meet a panel of judges for the last round of judging and will then join finalists from across the UK in Birmingham for a special event to celebrate their achievements and discover if they have won a national award.

Sylvia Nicoll, Regional Manager for Four Seasons Health Care in Grampian, said: “Rhona took over Havencourt 4 years ago with low occupancy/ embargo and poor reputation and high agency use. Rhona took the home on a journey over the last 4 years of which I have been proud to be a part of. Putting the residents at the heart of everything she has turned the home around from Grades of 2 for care and support to Grade 5. The home is full with a waiting list and is the home of choice in the area. There is now minimal agency use and the colleague turnover dramatically reduced. This is all due to the leadership within the home shown by Rhona. She received 4 nominations by different team members which truly show how much she is respected by her team. Well done Rhona!”

The Care Awards were open to employees from all Four Seasons homes across the UK and central team members to celebrate their commitment in the delivery of high-quality services to all the residents cared for in more than 260 locations.

The 14 categories have been created to recognise excellence in a variety of roles across the organisation ranging from ‘Carer/Support Worker of the Year’ to ‘Personal Activities Lead Champion’. We also wanted to recognise the hard the dedication and commitment from our residents, their relatives and volunteers.
