Three residents from Hollie Hill Care Home in Stanley, regularly take part in a dementia friendly swimming group at their local pool.
Jackie Coulson, Home Manager, said: “The residents have come on leaps and bounds after taking part in these swimming sessions. One of the gentleman has even joined the gym and has a personal trainer to help him progress with his goals. Whilst tone of our ladies who has lots of fun and enjoys swimming independently. I know our Personal Activities Leader Marj, who accompanies the residents on these trips is like a proud mum, as she watches them grow in confidence. This just goes to show, dementia isn’t a barrier and shouldn’t stop you doing what you want to do.”
