A delicious and heart-warming donation

Astell Care Centre were touched to receive such a lovely and heart-warming gesture from their local community.

Recently, our local community centre’s pottery bank created a poll on Facebook for care homes in the Walker area of Newcastle. Community members were asked to vote for a care Home to win 50 afternoon tea boxes. It was amazing that the poll came down to two homes after 4,600 votes were casted and our home was one of them! Unfortunately, we were pipped at the post by only 1% of the votes.

Prior to the results being announced, a lady called Yvonne Howey commented on the post saying she didn’t want either of the home’s residents missing out. Yvonne decided she would raise the cash for the second place home so they could also enjoy an afternoon tea.

“No way was I letting any residents miss out” Yvonne told our team.

Fiona Robinson and Diane Slasor from a local deli shop called Deli…cious approached Yvonne and offered to donate afternoon tea for 50. This amazing gesture was so touching and our residents loved every moment of their afternoon tea. We couldn’t believe how kind Deli…cious were to donate such a lovely treat.

Our home manager, Lisa said, “It was a very kind and generous donation by Diane and Fiona! Especially as the covid-19 pandemic has financially impacted most businesses. It truly is amazing to see people come together and do something so kind and thoughtful for our residents. They thoroughly enjoyed it and it brought happy tears to our team!”

To show our appreciation we brought some beautiful bouquets of flowers to say thank you for their thoughtful donation. They were so pleased with the flowers that they posted a photo of themselves with them.

Thank you Yvonne and Deli…cious for making our residents so happy!
