Kingswood Lodge Care Home resident Iris Porter had a day to remember when colleagues and residents at the home decided to surprise her with a fun-filled party for her 102nd birthday.
The lounge was decorated with flowers and huge balloons for the occasion and the piece de resistance was a fabulous pink cake created by chef Jason Eldridge.
Having lived in Wotton since 1948, and worked until her retirement at local business Tubbs, Lewis & Co making elastic products, Iris is well known in the village, and had a steady stream of well-wishers throughout the afternoon. They were joined by her son Roy and extended members of the family, who were delighted to see so much love for Iris on her special day, and the celebrations continued into the evening.
Home Manager Jana Vaskova said:
“Iris is a very kind lady with a marvellous sense of humour, which I’m sure has contributed to her long and productive life. She is very popular here at Kingswood Lodge and my team was determined to pull out all the stops to make her 102nd birthday really special.
“Kingswood Lodge is very much part of the community in Wotton, and for Iris, who lived in the same house in the village for 70 years, this has meant that she has been able to keep up her old connections and friendships, and it was great to welcome many of those friends into the home today to celebrate with Iris.”
As the occasion drew to a close Iris said:
“Just look at my balloons, cake and flowers from my lovely girls! I’ve been kissed and hugged from morning til night and people keep on coming. What a wonderful day!"
Iris’s son Roy thanked all the staff at Kingswood Lodge for their efforts, saying:
“We know Mum thoroughly enjoyed her day, having so many of her friends and family around which means so much to her. Once again thank you so much.”
