Alexandra’s history project with local children

Residents at Alexandra Care Home have been exploring the people and places who have made history in the local area with pupils from Wargrave C of E Primary School.

The pupils visit every week with their teachers and read to residents who are encouraging the children’s love of books.  Not only do the children get more practice with their reading, it’s a lovely way for the different generations to interact with each other while sharing their stories.

Together, they’ve created a wonderful book full of pictures and information about some historical local industries, like The Vulcan Foundry who produced locomotives for the UK and overseas rail companies. The residents and children also discovered that the original site of Wargrave School is where Alexandra Care Home now stands!

Magic Moments Coordinator, Cathy, said: “We all thoroughly enjoyed working on this history project together and spending time with the children is one of the highlights of our week here.”

Alexandra Care Home is located in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside and provides residential carenursing carerespite care and palliative care.
