Comber's Doris named 'Carer of the Year 2019'

Everyone at Comber Care Home in County Down is absolutely thrilled that Care Assistant Doris Murray was last week crowned ‘Carer of the Year’ at the national Four Seasons Care Awards in Birmingham.

At 84 years old, Doris is older than many of the residents she cares for, but colleagues remark upon her incredible work rate ‘that would put many 20 year olds to shame’, nominating her for her dedication and the assistance she has given to numerous new colleagues during her 28 years at the home.

Paul Hayes, Chief Commercial Officer, presented Val with the award and said:

“Doris is described by colleagues as being a total and utter joy to be around. She told me that what motivates her is being able to bring the smallest of joys to a resident's day in whatever way she possibly can.

"I asked Doris what her secret was to being such an amazing carer and she told me: 'People don't always need advice or practicalities. Sometimes all they need is a hand to hold, an ear to listen and a heart to understand them'.

"I can only describe Doris as a Four Seasons Health Care national treasure, and it is a privilege to present her with this thoroughly well-deserved award."

Carol Cousins, Four Seasons Managing Director for Northern Ireland added:

“Comber Care Home has a vibrant and joyous atmosphere and the feeling of warmth when you step into the foyer is remarked on by so many people visiting for the first time.

“Doris plays a significant role in the culture of the Home. She has that unique ability to recognise and assist when something is just ‘not quite right’ and is always so giving of her own time to others. Residents often reach out to Doris - not because they find someone close to their own age - but because they find a genuinely caring lady with time to listen and make everyone feel special.”

Congratulations Doris on a fantastic achievement from everyone at Four Seasons Health Care!
