Resident, Elsie who is 98, at Pellon Care Centre was 22 when the war finished and these are a few of her memories. During the war Elsie worked as a Machinery tester making sure that the machine worked correctly and fixed anything that was broken, she said “I really enjoyed my work”. My husband was in the army as a dispatch rider, he took messages from one camp to another.
When the war finished, Elsie said “We all got together walking around and singing, we had street parties that went on for about three days! I was 22 so the right age to have a party, it was a joyful time.” It’s lovely to hear stories of VE Day, it will make the 75th anniversary even more special.
