Residents of Astell Care Centre enjoyed a fun-filled day for their ‘Pop Up Local History’ event.
We took our residents on a journey back to their childhood by baking and tasting local treats, singin’ hinnies. Our residents also reminisced about what they used to make with their mothers.
In the afternoon, we let our creativity flow by creating wall art inspired by famous local landmarks, such as the Tyne Bridge and the Angel of the North. Followed by an afternoon tea with lots of local treats including Tunnocks tea cakes, ham and pease pudding sandwiches and Newcastle Brown Ale.
After all the fun our residents enjoyed relaxing and looking at their local history scrapbooks with pictures of famous landmarks, the local area, school days and more! They enjoyed reminiscing and sharing memories. We also discussed what could be added to the scrapbook over the coming weeks and look forward to using it in the future.
