Our garden has yielded more success here at Maple Lodge Care Home as we’ve been able to carve and eat our very own homegrown pumpkins!
All the way back in October 2022 our residents had the idea to plant the seeds from the pumpkins we carved then, and so after drying the seeds for five months we planted them in March of this year. Three of them survived to maturity and so they were harvested!
One of the pumpkins was turned into soup in the kitchen and the other two were carved and displayed outside.
Residents said the soup was delicious and it was very satisfying to see the results of such hard work.
Maple Lodge Care Home is located in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear and provides nursing dementia care, residential care and residential dementia care.
