The Poetry Club from Hallgarth Care Home in Durham held a special afternoon in honour of Mr Robert Burns, the famous Scottish poet with his birthday, Burns night being Thursday 25th January.
The room was decorated with images and information on Scotland, and residents shared their memories of holidays and haggis. The group then wrote their very own ode to Mr Burns:
Happy Birthday Rabbie Burns,
Let us celebrate this day.
With a wee dram of whisky,
In the true and Scottish way.
This special day we give to you
With your poems and your thoughts,
The red, red rose and bonnie doon,
And auld lang syne of course.
A Handsome, rugged womanising
Man that you may be,
Your poems are often read,
Here in Hallgarth poetry.
So happy birthday to the man,
That Scotland holds so dear,
With haggis, tatties, neeps for tea
The place to be is here!
