Hemsworth Park Care Home’s competition to inspire budding green thumbs to try their hand at planting a miniature garden has awarded first prize to a clever creation inspired by The Olympic Games.
Local residents of all ages answered the call from the care home to participate in the pocket garden competition, inspired by the home’s ‘Summer of Joy’; a two-month long celebration of events for the residents designed to have them enjoying the outdoors, fresh air and friends.
The team from Busy Bees Nursery in Wakefield were awarded the grand prize; a £200 voucher to spend at Newstead Nurseries in Havercroft.
The entries were judged by the residents who looked for pocket gardens that were creative, colourful and cheerful.
Clare McCourt, Hemsworth Park’s Home Manager said: “Our residents have had a wonderful time admiring all the entries and we’re so grateful to the many people who took the time to participate in our competition.”
Resident, Kathleen Dickinson, said: “It was delightful to look at all the entries we received and very hard to choose a winner as they were all so clever and beautiful in their own way.”
Hemsworth Park Care Home is located in Kinsley, West Yorkshire and provides residential care, respite care, residential dementia care, intermediate care, and support for mental health and learning disabilities.
