Hemsworth Park Care Home residents have received a very surprising, delightful boxful of wonderful letters this week from well-wishers all over the world.
The box came from a non-profit organisation based in Ohio, USA, called ‘Love for Our Elders’ who reach out to thousands of elderly people across the globe.
Jacob Cramer who founded the organisation, lost his beloved grandfather when he was 10 years old. As he grew into a teenager and still missing his grandfather, he began thinking about what he could do to touch the lives of the elderly. He started writing letters to elderly people in his community and then other people joined him and now the movement has grown and has one mission: “To bring joy into the lives of the elderly.”
Resident Eddie was overjoyed to receive his letter and said “This reminds me that everyone, no matter their background, is always important to someone. The letter brought a tear to my eye and I’m not usually an emotional person.”
Team member Natalie said “Our residents have been overwhelmed by the lovely letters full of positive, thoughtful, kind and loving words. This was such a surprise but has brought so much joy and happiness to our residents. We’re now looking forward to sending our own letters of kindness to others around the world.”
Hemsworth Park Care Home is located in Kinsley, West Yorkshire and provides residential care, respite care, residential dementia care, intermediate care, and support for mental health and learning disabilities.
