Dennis, a resident at Howdon Care Centre in Wallsend, wanted to make his girlfriend Agnes’ birthday a special affair.
He set to work surprising her with flowers and chocolates, before whisking her off to a lovely lunch date, at a restaurant of her choice. Agnes chose to go to the Toby Carvery in Shiremoor, enjoying a lovely roast dinner and cheeky half a pint.
Ruth Todd, Home Manager, said: “This lovely day out epitomises life in a care home. The residents are able to come and go as they please doing activities that are meaningful to them. Our job as the care team is to offer support when it’s needed. I’m glad Agnes was able to enjoy her birthday and Dennis got her wish to surprise her.”
Meanwhile back at the home, the other residents were having some fun Aqua Painting.
Jade Richardson, Personal Activities Leader, explains: “The Aqua Paints are great! You can 'paint' inside the lines and objects will appear but it doesn’t matter if you go out of the lines as a beautiful background will be revealed. One of the gentlemen who was painting told me he felt like he was doing magic, as he was creating all of these beautiful pictures."
