Midfield Lodge Care Home has joined up with some 'Little Owls' to forge a special partnership bringing different generations together.
The Little Owls are the pre-school charges of two local childminders, Natalie and Amanda and so called because they hail from the villages of Over Willingham, Longstanton and Swavesey.
The children are now visiting the home once a fortnight and both parties see great benefits in encouraging inter-generational friendships and interactions.
For the children it's a chance to enjoy the time and attention the older folk give them and the experience helps to develop respect, patience and understanding. For Midfield Lodge's residents there is the pleasure of sharing the children's company, sparking memories of their own and family members' childhoods and an opportunity to share knowledge and skills.
Childminder Natalie says:
"We’ve found that some residents who are usually reluctant to join in with activities, look forward to seeing the children and interacting with them.
"Both the generations have so much fun together. And the right activity is important, ensuring all can get involved.
Gardening, art, music, singing and dancing are all popular activities, and we'll be building these into our visits as the year progresses and the two groups get to know one another."
