Staff and residents at Kilburn Care Home had the pleasure of a visit from Lollipop and Tinkerbell, a couple of Shetland ponies! Everyone enjoyed a lovely afternoon petting them and admiring them as they visited residents all around the home.
Animal therapy brings the joy of animals to care homes and research has shown that stroking and playing with animals can have tangible health benefits including reducing stress and blood pressure. It can also draw more reserved residents out of themselves, even when they are reluctant to interact with people, and proved a very popular activity at Kilburn.
