Move over Wimbledon!

Residents of Warmely House Care Home had an exciting few days unleashing their creativity and showing off their tennis skills!

Our residents created homemade tennis rackets in one of our arts and crafts sessions. The rackets were made out of cardboard cut outs. Our residents glued a couple of layers of cardboard together to make them extra strong and added wool to the handle for comfort. To give the rackets a bit of personality our residents painted them in lovely bright colours.

After a couple of days, the rackets were dry and we were ready to host our very own Wimbledon tournament! The court was in the lounge and our residents played from their chairs with a balloon as the ball. It may have been a few more players than the usual doubles match, but it was certainly an event to remember!

Resident Barbara told us “Betty’s backhand was lethal! But wow we did have fun!”

Residents, Geoffrey and Barbara were our star players on the court. They held some excellent rallies with the balloon flying back and forth between them and lots of laughter.

Our team member, Amanda said, “It was such a delight to see how proud our resident we’re of their creations and then being able to use them for a game of balloon tennis was just brilliant! Of course the afternoon was topped off with Tea and cakes.”
