Red Rose Care Home in Ebbw Vale has a diverse multi-cultural mix, and decided to have a day of celebration of the different cultures within the home.
With staff and residents hailing from Wales, England, Scotland, Poland, Romania and South Africa there is lots of diversity to celebrate!
The day began with a full English breakfast eaten together. Then mide-morning Teresa, a Polish member of the care team, came in and served a sweet Polish dish called ‘Pinecones’.
For lunch it was off to Romania as nurse Ana made a traditional Romanian stew and pudding.
Come tea time it was South Africa's turn, and everyone enjoyed sampling Babotie, the country's national dish, which is a delicious mixture of curried meat and fruit with a creamy golden topping.
South Africa also provided the theme for the afternoon art and craft group where necklaces were made, and residents also enjoyed discovering different dances from around the world via the wonders of You Tube!
Activities Coordinator Leanne dressed as a Welsh lady and the day finished with a multi-cultural quiz.
Resident Deborah Morris said:
"I really enjoyed trying the different foods and learning about the cuisines and cultures. I’m hope we can do it all again with more countries in the future!’
Home Manager Kerrie Davies added:
"It is important that we celebrate the diversities within our home. The event allowed us all to learn more about each others’ backgrounds whilst enjoying an array of fine food!"
