Maisie, a resident at Longfield Care Home in Eglinton took part in an inter-generational project back in 2015 and in the course of it became firm friends with Finton, a pupil from Broad Bridge Primary School.
At the end of the project Finton sang 'A Mother's Lullaby' to Maisie at Magee Campus at Ulster University, in front of a Great Hall packed with esteemed guests and community representatives. When he finished there was not a dry eye in the house, and Maisie and Finton each received an honorary certificate in recognition of their involvement in the project.
When Maisie sadly passed away last year, her nephew Hugh Lyndsay wanted her to be remembered in a special way, and presented Longfield Home Manager Louise Mccloskey and her team with a framed photo of Maisie and Finton alongside Sarah Penny and Assumpta Ryan, Professor of Ageing and Health at Ulster University.
Activities Coordinator Valerie said:
"Our intergenerational project with Broad Bridge Primary School touched everyone's heart and reminded us how special and valued our older generation are.
"We are so moved by this gesture from Maisie's nephew Hugh. The photo has pride off place in the foyer of Longfield Care Home and will be treasured forever."
