St Catherine's Care Home in Bolton is really leading the way in fighting flu and raising awareness this winter by linking up with a local pharmacy to provide a non-appointment drop-in vaccination service, and creating a Flu Awareness board at the entrance to the home.
Linking up with Hooton's Pharmacy, located 5 minutes from the home, Home Manager Gillian Johnson and Administrator Kerry Foster have been driving small groups of colleagues to the pharmacy to have their vaccinations, making the process as simple as possible for colleagues.
Everyone receiving the vaccine has then received a certificate of confirmation - displayed on the Flu Awareness board - which has encouraged other colleagues to sign up for the free flu jab.
The result has been a substantial uptake in the vaccine amongst colleagues at St Catherine's, significantly higher than in previous years.
The local NHS Community Infection Control Team loved the awareness board and are now using it in social media activity as an example of best practice.
