Still loving life in lockdown - Joan's story

Our lovely resident, Joan, joined us at Balmoral Care Home this year in June. Joan was born in Sheffield in 1935 and met her true love when she was 16 at a dance hall call Greystones, they danced all night and the rest is history… they have spent their whole lives together. Joan left school at 16 and started at Sheffield Transport Depot where she worked until retirement!

How have you been keeping occupied?

I have been doing crafts, dancing, singing and keeping fit during lockdown. The activities team have been keeping us all nice and busy! I have also been introduced to Youtube… wow! The team have all been amazing; they always go out of their way to make sure we are all happy.

Have you ever experienced anything similar to this current situation in your life?

I lived through the war which was a lot worse and very scary, even after the war was over we still had a hard life. For me the lockdown hasn’t been too bad, I enjoy spending my time here with the team. I am excited to go shopping again though!

What are you looking forward to when life gets back to normal again?

Oooh going shopping!! I love going out shopping and grabbing a bite to eat so I can’t wait to be able to do that again. One of the lovely team members, Victoria, has promised to take me out shopping at the first safe opportunity!

Thank you Joan, we hope it won’t be too long before you get to go out shopping and get to see lots of lovely places again.
