Residents at Summerdale Court Care Home have been celebrating the Harvest Festival with a host of fun-filled activities and by giving a helping hand to one of our local community groups.
In the weeks leading up to the festival we enjoyed lots of arts & crafts sessions and made our Harvest Man, decorated leaves and painted a barn and farm animals for our wonderful harvest display.
On the big day we enjoyed a delicious lunch with traditional harvest dishes including Fidget Pie, honey baked gammon and pear tart and enjoyed sharing our memories of celebrating harvest festivals in our younger days.
The afternoon was spent singing some of our favourite hymns including ‘We Plough the Fields and Scatter’ accompanied by our homemade music shakers.
Team members kindly donated food items to ‘Lola’s Homeless’, a community group in Newham providing practical support and advice to homeless people. The group's founder, Lorraine and her colleague Dave came along to collect our donations and Lorraine said, “This is wonderful, what a beautiful display, we are so grateful for the donations”.
Home Administrator Trish said, “Our harvest celebration was an amazing event. The residents thoroughly enjoyed it and to be able to support one of our local homeless groups at the same time was fantastic.”
