Technology keeps resident in touch with Willow Lodge family

Advances in technology have had a fantastic effect on the way people communicate. You no longer have to use ‘snail mail’ to get your messages to loved ones near and far. We can now send an email, text message or even video call.

Claire, a care assistant at Willow Lodge Care Home in Newcastle upon Tyne used this technology to cheer up one of her residents who was admitted to hospital.

Lindsay Johnson, Home Manager, explains: “When our resident was admitted to hospital, it didn’t take long before he was missing his friends and the care team at Willow Lodge. Claire assisted the resident in video calling everyone at the home using Face Time. This made a real difference to his stay in hospital as he was able to see all of us and we could reassure him. It was great for us to see his face too as while he was in hospital he was sorely missed in the home.

“This is one of the ways that the team here at Willow Lodge try and go above and beyond to provide special experiences and make a difference to the lives of people in their care. I’m extremely proud of my team for using all of the tools in their kit to help our residents.”
