Writer sparks reminiscence at Hallgarth

Hallgarth Care Home in Durham had the pleasure of welcoming author Hazel Stephenson, who hails from Barnard Castle and has had three books published on the subject of land girls.

Hazel visited the home to talk about her writing, taking the group on a trip down memory lane, covering everything from the middle man to evacuees, sparking memories of the old tin bath and  washday with the tub and mangle.

They talked about Mam always busy in the kitchen, cooking whatever she had to feed the family, at a time when doors were always unlocked and no one had much of anything, but was always willing to share what they did have.
