It’s nearly summer… full of the promise of sunshine, fresh air and outside activities that beckon. Throughout July and August this year, the residents in Four Seasons care homes are celebrating our event: Summer of Joy.
The event is all about spending time outside, enjoying some fresh air and connecting with friends, family and community groups to make the most of our lovely garden spaces. Many of our care homes are planning to create their own pocket gardens with beautiful plants, flowers and herbs to attract wildlife and create a sensory experience.
We welcome all budding garden designers and enthusiasts in our community to take part and celebrate with us, by creating their very own pocket garden. We hope that family and friends and the local community will be inspired by the photos shown here and will join us in getting green fingered. Some homes are also running a 'My Pocket Garden' design competition with their local garden centre.
Pocket gardens are limited only by your imagination and don't have to be ambitious or costly...how about planting up an old handbag to create a delightful display in a small space?
Using an old plastic pot can work too, and means that the end result won’t be too heavy to move around. In the example below, we have cut part of the pot away to reveal a very small person's steps up to a fairy tower.
If you are feeling a little more ambitious, why not incorporate small figures or objects to create a magical fairyland like we have in the hamper example below.
If you are interested in taking part and sharing your creations, please get in touch with your local Four Seasons care home. They would be delighted to see your creations and to share them with residents living in our homes.
