Winter Warmers - 20th December

Residents bag a bargain

Teams in our homes have been organising Christmas shopping sprees for residents so they can get  everything on their wish list! Check out how they got on in today’s Winter Warmer.

Sandringham Care Home Manager Tracey took Ronald, Nan and Eric, who are residents in the home’s dementia community, on a trip to Rushmere Shopping Centre in Craigavon, Northern Ireland.

The residents mentioned to the Personal Activities Leader that they wanted to buy Christmas presents for their loved ones so fancied a day of shopping.

During the trip they visited Santa’s Grotto and joined in with the school choir singing Christmas Carols. The gentlemen were keen to go to sport shops to look at the football and rugby shirts while the ladies browsed around the clothes shops and visited Debenhams to sample the perfumes. Afterwards they all had tea/ coffee and a big piece of cake after an enjoyable day.

Resident Ronald is local to the area and lots of people stopped to have a chat with him. Ronald said “I haven’t been to Rushmere shopping centre in years, it was a great day and I really enjoyed myself. I didn’t know I was that well known as everyone seems to know me here and stop to say hello!”

Residents and colleagues at Gotton Manor Care Home in Somerset had a great shopping trip to Sanders Garden centre. There browsed the range of Christmas goodies on sale then enjoyed a lovely lunch in the cafe.

Resident D.Kitts said: "I had a lovely time.  It was a very enjoyable and relaxed outing. I loved looking at all the Christmas stuff."

There was only one place for residents at Hallgarth Care Home to go when it was chucking it down with rain, blowing a gale and Christmas shopping to do – the Metro Centre!

The home's hardy shoppers were up early, had their breakfast and were ready to go in time for the shops opening to get everything on their wish list - and hopefully a few bargains in the Christmas sales along the way too!

Everyone met up at the pub for lunch and to chat about what we had seen and bought so far, and where to go next. Then it was time for round two - and more shopping!

Once it got to half past two it was time for another cuppa and chat before braving the weather and getting back on the bus for home, loaded down with bags and boxes containing everything from chocolate sprouts to fancy pants!
