Care Home Manager
Amanda started caring for her grandmother in 2005 and knew straight away that she had found her vocation in life. After working as a domiciliary carer, Amanda moved into the care home environment and quickly progressed from her role as Care Assistant to being a trainer and managing many different departments including being a Dementia Care Lead. She has managed care homes since 2016, and joined Park House in April 2020.
Why did you decide to join Four Seasons Health Care?
I’d heard wonderful things about Four Seasons and I know they are extremely supportive of the teams who work in the care homes across the country. A truly wonderful company and a privilege to work with.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy every aspect of my role as home manager, from supporting the teams in all departments, ensuring person- centred care is of the highest standard and delivered by a fully trained, competent team. It’s a pleasure to work with a team who are as passionate as I am.
What are your favourite hobbies and pastimes?
I love to dance and spend a lot of time dancing with my daughter. I also enjoy gardening and being outdoors and on the family farm. I’m well known for going off walking for hours and hours in the countryside with my dogs! Learning new skills and working on DIY projects around the house also makes good use of my free time.
Are there any highlights in your career you are particularly proud of?
My whole career has been a series of highlights. I have worked my way up from a being a Care Assistant travelling to work on my push bike to being the Manager of a care home. I’ve have enjoyed every step; I put my heart and soul into everything I do and care passionately about health and social care.
What do you feel is your biggest achievement outside of your career?
I have a wonderful family including three children who I am very proud of.
What are your Qualifications?
I am currently completing a Level 5 Diploma in Management and of course I have years of priceless practical experience.
What top tips would you give someone when looking for the right care home?
Before you visit a care home, sit with your loved one and think about what is important to them to get an understanding of what you should be looking for from the home.
Meet the manager where possible and don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you like. Choosing the right care home is one of the hardest decisions to make so take your time if you can and don’t feel you have to decide straight away. If you think of more questions after your visit write them down and give the home a call – no question is too big or small and the home should be able to answer all your queries knowledgably.
