On Sunday 2nd October 2016, Michael Green from Bishop Auckland ran the Chester Marathon - a huge 26.2 miles - in memory of his father-in-law John who sadly lost his battle to cancer aged 59.
Michael set himself the challenge to run the marathon to raise money for the ‘angels’ at Macmillan and Barrington Lodge Care Home who looked after his father-in-law in his final weeks whilst offering support to his family in the darkest of hours.
Michael’s wife Angela said: “It’s our way to say thank you, not just for looking after dad but also for the support they gave to us. We’re going to split the money 50/50 between the two organisations.”
Michael said: “The nurses and staff of at both Macmillan and Barrington Lodge showed so much care and support at a time when we all wondered how we would cope. They are truly amazing people and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for all they’ve done.”
