It was like a scene from the old TV show ‘Animal Hospital’ at Cherry Trees Care Home in Barnsley last week. A residents spotted a canary, which had seemingly crash landed into the home’s garden.
Fearing for the birds safety in the wild, the home decided to adopt the bird, whilst waiting to see if the owner came forward. To make the bird feel at home, it was given a new cage by the residents and team at the home.
The canary has taken to life at Cherry Tree’s like a duck to water, and is enjoying the attention from the residents. He even visits a different bedroom each night to keep the residents company as they sleep.
Once project bird rescue was complete, some of the residents decided it was time to have a gardening competition. To embrace Spring, the residents – and some of their relatives – got down and dirty planting sun flower seeds. Whichever one grows the tallest wins the competition. Now it’s just a waiting game.
For those who didn’t fancy gardening, they took part in the weekly pool and dominoes competitions. Two residents were crowned the winners and received their trophies, which are now sitting pride of place in their rooms. Will they still have them next week?
Well done guys! It’s great to see such a competitive edge at Cherry Trees.
