Sarah Watkins crowned Regional Support Team Member of the Year

Sarah Watkins, Administrator at Woodview Care Home in Lincoln has been crowned the Regional Support Team Member of the Year for the East of England in the Four Seasons Health Care Awards 2016 and is through to the national finals.

These are the 1st Four Season’s Care Awards and this Year over 700 people were nominated for awards by care home residents, colleagues and visitors. All entries have been of a very high standard making the judging process a difficult one. However, a winner had to be chosen and the nomination for Sarah demonstrated how she continues to make a difference and provide special resident experiences on a daily basis.

During the judging process for the Support Team Member of the Year award, the panel was looking at a number of different factors including demonstrating a high level of support to colleagues, residents and families through their everyday tasks, alongside their commitment to development and their attitude to Making a Difference.

Sarah was nominated by a colleague. Her nomination read: “Sarah is the heart of Woodview. Since I started as Manager in May 2015 I have witnessed her consistently give 110% to the home, the team and most importantly the residents. I have witnessed her unfailing care, sensitivity and compassionate approach with residents and families when times have been hard for them. Sarah has supported the bereaved and even shed a tear with family members when loved ones have been lost. She will sit with residents and give them time. If there is ever a problem she will do her best to resolve it for them, often going out of her way and in her own time. As a manager I could not have achieved all I have over the last year without Sarah's knowledge and patience. Not only is she an excellent administrator but a skilled problem solver. She never comes to me with problems but with ways to resolve them. Sarah has supported her colleagues when times were hard. I have seen Sarah in the garden planting flowers when we needed a hand, I have seen her with a duster when we were short of domestic colleagues, I have also seen her in the kitchen making sandwiches when our kitchen were understaffed. If any area of the home needs extra support she will offer to help. Sarah will most probably try and play this nomination down and will go mad at me for nominating her but I really do feel that her contributions to the home and the part she plays in making Woodview a lovely place to live and work should be recognised. Four Seasons Health Care are incredibly lucky to have such a conscientious, hardworking, caring and skilled administrator who consistently gives over and above what is expected. Sarah truly deserves this recognition.

As the winner for the East of England, Emily is automatically through to the national Four Season’s Care Awards finals. She will meet a panel of judges in for the last round of judging and will then join finalists from across the UK in Birmingham for a special event to celebrate their achievements and discover if they have won a national award.

Whenever I have met her no job is too big for her. Like her nomination says, Sarah is the heart of the home, and is always there as a guiding hand regardless as to whether it’s a team member she’s helping, a resident, relative or prospective family. Well done Emily this is a well-deserved award!”

The endorsement she’s had from her colleagues shows just how much she’s valued in her home. She lives and breathes the values of the company and puts everyone before herself. Congratulations Sarah! You are a worthy winner.”

The Care Awards were open to employees from all Four Seasons homes across the UK and central team members to celebrate their commitment in the delivery of high-quality services to approximately 14,000 residents cared for in more than 300 locations.

The 14 categories have been created to recognise excellence in a variety of roles across the organisation ranging from ‘Carer/Support Worker of the Year’ to ‘Personal Activities Lead Champion’. We also wanted to recognise the hard the dedication and commitment from our residents, their relatives and volunteers.
