Residents from Hemsworth Park Care Home in Pontefract were put through their paces on Wednesday 10th August 2016 as they welcomed local students into the home.
The students aged between 15 and 17, were completing their National Citizen Service helping them to gain valuable experience to help them later on in life. The group spent two days in the home. The first was spent getting to know the residents, their likes and dislikes, and coming up with a sporting plan of action.
Day two was when the action happened. The students split the residents up into two groups and played a variety of games with them.
Joy Allen, Home Manager, said: “The residents really enjoyed themselves with the students. They all played a variety of games, influenced by the Olympics but more importantly based on what the residents liked to do. The activities included football, a modified version of crown green bowls, hot potato and many more.
“The residents enjoyed the time out in the fresh air, swapping stories with the students and discussing the Olympic Games. I want to thank the students for coming in, and I hope they got as much out of the experience as our residents did.”
