The gift of giving is said to be one of the most special things anyone can do.
This is certainly the case at Howdon Care Centre in Wallsend. Everyone at the home has been doing their bit to help those less fortunate than themselves.
Ruth Todd, Home Manager, said: “The first organisation we wanted to help was called Retrak. They help street children in Malawi build a positive future. So we all clubbed together to buy books, pencils, calculators and other bits and pieces to help. It’s the simple things that we take for granted that can make a huge difference to others.
“Our second good cause was a little closer to home. We teamed up with Shining Stars, an organisation who help the homeless in Newcastle. We all filled a shoe box with warm items such as gloves and scarves as well as practical items such as deodorant, toothbrush and chocolates to give to a ‘street friend’. We want them to know that there are people who care about them, after all none deserves to be unhappy at Christmas.”
