The theme for Care Home Open Day this year focuses on celebration and the Queen’s 90th birthday. Here at Four Seasons Health Care we thought it would be nice to share some of our resident’s stories who are also celebrating their 90th year!
Woodcot Lodge presents Joan Matthews
Joan turned 90 on 20th May, and she remembers watching the Queen’s coronation on TV, after accidentally buying the television instead of a pair of socks for her daughter. All of the neighbours came round and watched the event with Joan and her family.
Joan met her husband Alan when they were 13 – true childhood sweetheart. They were married 5 years later. Both Joan and Alan were in the Army, however once the war finished Joan has to leave her position with the ATS in Bulford because she was a married woman.
Joan had a variety of jobs, most notably working as a volunteer with the Samaritans. This is part of the reason why Joan believes the evolution of the NHS has been a fantastic thing.
Joan and Alan have 2 beautiful daughters, who they enjoy spending time with and going on family walks.
Now a resident at Woodcot Lodge Joan enjoys spending her days relaxing and taking part in the activities held in the home.
