Nobody needs an excuse to enjoy cake, but apparently there’s a day dedicated to it.
Laurels Lodge Care Home in Woodside marked cake day by having their own Bake Off style event.
Sheila Gesma, Home Manager, said: “We had 10 entries in the cake competition which were all amazing. We couldn’t judge the competition ourselves so we welcomed Simon and Adele from SHMU FM to judge.
“The judges had a really tough decision to make, as all of the cakes tasted so good. However, the overall winner was Joanna Zielinkska, one of our care assistants. Her winning apple cake was her mum’s special recipe and rendered the judges speechless.”
Joanna Zielinska, Care Assistant, said: “The cake competition was great and I was totally surprised for being the grand winner. My family all love apple cake, and I was pleased to be able to share mum’s special recipe with my Laurels Lodge family.”
Simon, from SHMU FM, said: “This is one of the best events that I’ve been to. The effort that everyone has put in has been fantastic. The cakes were amazing. Well done everyone!”
