It’s been a couple of years since Ground Force’s theme tune could be heard in our living rooms. A team of green-fingered fanatics at Woodview Care Home in Lincoln became their very own ground force team embarking on a garden transformation that even Alan Titchmarsh would be happy of.
Louise Lawson, Home Manager, explained: “For some time now at Woodview we have had an area which has been unusable for residents and caused a bit of an eye-sore. This summer, with help from some of our residents from both the Woodview and Greenwood units, the activities team decided it was time for a bit of a change.
“After speaking to the residents, I came up with the idea of putting a little patch of AstroTurf to cover the little section of courtyard that we wanted to cover. This was the beginning of the transformation.
“We had to move wires which our maintenance man Vince helped with, we then moved slabs, levelled the ground with sand and laid 16 square meters of fake grass. The grass is very realistic in appearance and wheelchairs can even go across it. All in all the garden looks much better than it did and we are enjoying using it. We have planted vegetables, played games outside, painted murals and also just enjoy sitting out in the sun!”
