Everyone enjoys taking a trip down memory lane. Doing activities we used to do when we were younger and sharing them with our loved ones and friends is a great way to create special experiences for all of the family.
Residents from Howdon Care Centre in Wallsend have been doing just that with a number of recent activities they’ve done in the home.
“Their first activity saw them take a trip into Newcastle City Centre, where they dined out at the Pacific Bar before going to have a look at Fenwick’s Christmas window display, which brought back many happy memories for our residents,” explained Ruth Todd, Home Manager.
May, one of the residents out on the trip said: “I used to bring my grandchildren every year to see the window so it was nice to keep the tradition going for me. Thank you for such a lovely day.”
For those residents who didn’t go to Newcastle, they welcomed Ashley from Reminiscence who introduced them to the world of virtual reality.
Ruth Todd, Home Manager, added: “The ladies and gents enjoyed the virtual trip down memory lane. It felt completely real to them as they visited places they’d seen in their past. They visited Buckingham Palace, Beamish, Whitley Bay Beach, White House Farm and some glens of Scotland. It really made a huge difference to those residents who are bed bound. They’re excited to see where they can go next.”
