On the big day, armed with a large bunch of flowers and a birthday cake and accompanied by Keresley Wood Personal Activities Coordinator Lesley Southwell, Alan took a taxi to his mum's house to give her a birthday surprise! So when staff at the home learned that Hilda's 94th birthday was coming up, they decided to reunite the pair so they could celebrate together.
It was a wonderful moment worthy of Cilla Black, and Hilda was thrilled to see her son and be able to spend her birthday with him.
She and Alan enjoyed the birthday cake together, looked through old photo albums and talked fondly of times gone by, including Alan's time playing guitar in a band and other memories from his childhood and youth.
Home Manager Hayley Wilkinson said:
"Spending time with his mum on her birthday meant the world to Alan, and for Hilda, seeing him on the doorstep was a moment she'll never forget.
"At Keresley Wood we try and live the Four Seasons values everyday - and it's great when we can really make a difference and facilitate memorable experiences.
"We were delighted to be able to arrange this visit for Alan and everyone at the home is thrilled that it all went to plan."
