Residents at Fernwood Court Care Home in Walsall enjoyed a visit from a group of Sixth Form students from Queen Mary’s High School this week.
The students are taking part in a project with a charity called ‘Kissing it Better’, who aim to enhance patient care in hospitals and care homes by educating the younger generation to better understand dementia and how to engage with older people and those with disabilities.
There was a lovely atmosphere in the home as the students chatted happily with each resident about all sorts of things, and there were lots of laughs and smiles all round. The students handed out gift bags containing note books and pens which the residents greatly appreciated, and read out a poem to everyone in the lounge to end the visit.
The students will be visiting their new friends every Wednesday for several weeks, and everyone at Fernwood Court is looking forward to their next visit.
