Going for Gold at Bishopsmead Lodge

The Winter Olympics have started and everyone here at Bishopsmead Lodge Care Home is excited for the big community torch relay!

The residents’ homemade torch has been sent out and about in Bishopsworth so members of the community can take part in their own relay with the care home. Among those carrying the torch are local children from St Peter’s Primary School and St Aldhelms Juniors Youth Football Team.

Leading up to the games, residents have also been busy creating flags and banners in their arts and crafts activities to decorate the home.

Reminiscence sessions have triggered memories from previous Olympics with favourite moments being Torvill and Dean winning gold for their legendary Boléro ice dance in 1984 and Eddie the Eagle winning hearts for his ski jumping in 1988, despite finishing last.

Magic Moments Coordinators, Amanda has organised a series of activities designed for residents of all abilities to take part in, including table top ice cube curling, snowball bowling, cross-country quizzing and armchair ice dancing!

Resident, Margaret Allen, said: “I’m looking forward to having a go at some of the games and activities we’re going to be doing and maybe winning a few medals of my own!”
