At the end of October every year, Hallgarth Care Home in Durham holds a Pumpkin Party, where they pit their home-grown pumpkin against that of local entertainer Colin Summer to see who will take the crown for the largest pumpkin!
This is a big event on the Hallgarth calendar and has been a special day for the home for over 10 years.
However, this year there was a problem. Although both parties had planted their seeds, the pumpkins did not flower or bear fruit.
So it was decided that a different approach was needed, and so as not to let the occasion pass, residents and staff decided to paint the biggest pumpkin possible!
Hallgarth's Art Club got to work, and before long an enormous pumpkin was completed for all to see - although they are wondering where they will find a wall big enough to hang it?!
As well as the huge pumpkin, residents have also painted a smiling face to decorate it, and smaller pumpkins to adorn the room in time for their party on Monday 28th October.
A very industrious afternoon - and the home is going to look extra special for its Pumpkin Party this year!
