Mavis and Fred, two residents from Hilltop Manor Care Home in Stoke-on-Trent, Mavis and Fred, this week had an interesting time at Chatterley Whitfield Colliery.
The Chatterley Whitfield Colliery site is acknowledged to be the most comprehensive survival of a deep mine site in England, with a range of surviving structures and buildings unequalled in any other former or surviving coalfield site in Britain. Nowadays it is a fascinating museum and heritage centre and was of very special interest to Fred, who had spent his younger years working at the mine.
