Hugs and high fives at Yatton Hall

Local children residents at Yatton Hall Care Home are not only growing fruit and veg together in their gardens, they are letting friendships blossom too!

They were brought together by inter-generational activity organisers Alive Activities, who set up the project for the two the generations together to garden, grow and enjoy nature. This week when it was time to say goodbye; Alice one of the school children turned to Derek, the gentleman who she’d been working with, and put her arms loosely around his neck for a goodbye.

It was a lovely little hug that just came naturally! Derek beamed and said “I haven’t had one of those for a long time”.He then put his hand up, palm forward - and for a moment Alice looked puzzled until she realised he was going for a high five! She smiled and met his hand, after which he said happily “Ooh I always wanted to do that”.

Beautiful things happen when you bring generations together!
