We’ve been sharing the stories of our younger days here at Alexandra Care Home, as part of our Local History activities this month.
Our resident Marian told us all about the time she was a Pit Brow Lass during the 1940’s at Lyme Colliery in Haydock. Along with other girls, she would pick out the stones and dirt from the coal after it had been brought up to the surface. Marian showed us how she had to put cardboard in a scarf on her head to stop the coal dust getting into her hair.
It’s been really interesting getting to know each other even better as we’ve taken trips down memory lane together.
