Everyone at Stobhill Care Home in Glasgow is delighted for colleague Karen Kennedy, who was named Support Worker of the Year 2019 at the Four Seasons Care Awards last week in Birmingham.
Karen is the Gardener at the home and her nomination focused on the incredible work she has done on the home's long-neglected garden.
An extract from her nomination read:
"Karen has been the gardener at Whitefield Care Home for many years and last year when the post became vacant at Stobhill she agreed to also look after their gardens too. The transformation has been simply outstanding - the gardens would not look out of place on the front of ‘Homes and Gardens!' She encourages the residents to assist and they have planted plenty, weeded, and genuinely got filthy in the process, much to the delight of all."
The award was judged and presented by David Moorcroft, Finance and Transformation Director, who said:
"Karen showed a huge passion for her work, and a creative vision that has been consistently applied over a long period of time to maximise resident happiness and involvement.
"We were particularly impressed with the innovation that she showed to make the most of the limited resources available, and the fact that she has done all this work herself, making a real difference to not one but two of our care homes."
Congratulations Karen from everyone at Four Seasons on a brilliant and well-deserved award!
