Winter Warmers - 5th December

Local bank brings festive ‘feel good factor’ to Ty Eirin

Today’s welsh Winter Warmer comes from Ty Eirin in Porth where residents have been making the home look festive by decorating Christmas trees, with help from Lloyds Bank Cardiff.

Some of the ladies who work at the bank live in the local area and wanted to put a smile on residents’ faces in the home. So their team decided to have an away day at Ty Eirin, arriving equipped with Christmas trees, decorations and a festive lunch.

Residents helped to dress three large trees in the activity lounge, choosing the baubles and colour schemes, with the bank’s team helping to hang the decorations in the hard to reach places.

Other residents enjoyed decorating smaller table top trees for other rooms in the home to help give it a festive feel.

One resident commented: “It’s nice to still be able to do the things I used to do at Christmas time, like putting up the decorations. It brings back happy memories of family life.

Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a buffet lunch funded by Lloyd’s bank including cakes, quiche, mince pies, sausage rolls and an assortment of sandwiches. Everyone sat together chatting, singing Christmas songs and getting to know each other.

Home Manager Jenny said: “Everyone in the home had a great time getting in the festive spirit, putting up decorations and singing Christmas songs. It really brought everyone together! The residents, colleagues and the bank’s team were overwhelmed with the ‘feel good factor’ which lasted for days, with everyone saying how it was such an enjoyable day.”

She continues: “We have really close connections with the community and many local organisations within it. Most of our residents lived locally so they have a lot in common to chat about with our visitors and learn how things have changed in the surrounding area over the years, which keeps them up to date and helps them to maintain a connection with the community.”

The festivities are continuing throughout December with the home also looking forward to school pupils visiting Ty Eirin. Younger children are coming to carol sing and put on a Christmas party for some of the residents and older children are coming in to help put up more decorations.
